Which links pay us, and the rules.

Overpaid? is free and has no ads. It earns money when you open certain fix links and take the offer on the other side. This page says exactly which links those are and what we do to keep that from affecting what you see.

Which links

Any fix link on this site can be an affiliate link, inside your audit, on the home page, or on the card rates and loan rates pages. Every one of them carries the words "affiliate link" right beside it. If a link has no label, it does not pay us. As of 2026-09-08, no link on the site is an affiliate link; this page will be updated with the date each program starts.

What decides whether a link is allowed to pay us is not which category it sits in, it is whether we can show you the free path and the dated source beside it. Two examples of where that rule lands, so it is not just a sentence:

• The card rows name real credit union cards, on the ongoing rate each one publishes on a dated rate sheet. They will never name an intro offer or a promo length, because those move within weeks and a stale one costs you money.
• A loan row carries no paid link to a marketplace. Those pay per lead, the lead gets resold, and your phone rings for a week. The free rate tables stay.

The rules

• Rows are ordered by your yearly gap and the minutes the fix takes. A link that pays us never moves a row up, and that is a test rather than a promise: before every deploy, a checker re-sorts every list on this site with the payout flags turned on one at a time and then off, and the deploy fails if a single position moves.
• The free path sits beside every paid link: the script for your current company, or a public rate table.
• One paid partner per row, and as many free options as are worth listing. The verdict names the option with the published price that fits your usage, and the date it was checked.
• We take a payment only where we can also show you the free path and the dated source. Where we cannot, the row stays free and says so.
• Nothing on this site refers you to debt settlement or debt relief, at any price.
• Insurance is the one place where the payout would be highest and your cost would be highest, and those are the same fact: a quote form sends a great deal about you somewhere, and the enquiry can be resold. If a paid quote comparison ever appears on this site it will sit below the free paths, not above them, and it will say plainly what submitting the form starts. The named carriers on the car and home rows are not paid links and cannot be: they come from a public regulator filing.
• Nothing about you is sent to a partner by this site. Affiliate links are ordinary outbound links; the partner's site does its own tracking under its own policy.
• Links to PumpWatt and Pivvi are to sibling sites by the same maker and are not affiliate links.
